silver with red bands (or red with silver bands) and reddish spines

which is its more common cousin with yellowish leaves and a white inflorescence that occurs at low to medium altitudes in Ecuador and Peru

The margins are scalloped in a decorative way and will develop red banding on the leaves in cooler weather and bright light. Our plants came originally from the vicinity of Huahuapan, Oaxaca many years ago. A beautiful species that reaches well over 15 inches across in very stiff leaved rosettes.
