the spiky leaves protect the bulbous base of the plant and flowers emerge on a very short scape before the new foliage appears

It bears 6 or more branches that are held upright at a 45-degree angle to the scape

described by Leme and Kollmann

In any case it appears to be different in some ways from ‘Nellie Rose’ in that it is darker in foliage
