Saint Denis was a Christian martyr from the third century. As the Bishop of Paris he converted many to Christianity with his speeches, eventually alarming the local Roman priests. They killed Denis by beheading him on the highest hill in Paris (now Montmartre). Denis didn't agree with the place of his martyrdom
