Fort Marion National Monument Howard University The wide street shows day-to-dayThe Castillo de San Marcos is the oldest masonry fort in the continental United States. It was completed in 1695, while Florida was part of the Spanish Empire. Over the intervening centuries, possession of Florida and the fort changed many times. The fort was renamed multiple times, and was under the name Fort Marion at the time this vintage poster was made in 1938. It wasn't until 1942 that the original Spanish name was restored. Our team has
