Brass & Iron Trousseau Box From Shekhawati - 19th Century Material - Satin Wood especially of this qualityThis Indian antique etched brass box is from Shekhawati and is one of the best examples of a Shekhawati trousseau box we've found and dates to the 19th century. These boxes are locally called peti (casket) and were originally used to store the trousseau (bridal clothes & jewellery). Each box is lined with fabric to safeguard the expensive contents. The body of the box is constructed from roheda wood which is clad with iron and brass. This worked, hand
