Vintage Painted Indian Pithara Console Chest Calligraphy Brushes made in the 19th centuryThis fabulously decorative Indian painted chest is made from teak with hand forged iron banding and has been repainted with traditional Indian designs. This style of pithara is from a Kathi home in Saurashtra and was known in the local dialect as a pataro. The Kathi were a ruling caste in Saurashtra and these chests would have contained a grand dowry. It is perfect for the storage of bedding for occasional guests.
