Painted Elm Kang Table From Shanxi - Late 19th Century Gifts Materials: Elm wood (yumu)This kang table is from Shanxi province and dates from the late 19th century. Kang tables were used on either side of the kang, a raised stone platform in wealthy Chinese homes used as a bed. Traditionally the kang was heated in winter. The original black lacquer & paintwork still remains and it has beautiful floral carvings These make great tables for the end of a bed or for a small T. V or stereo system.
