Indian Horse Panel From Tamil Nadu - 19th Century Style - Tianqiuping 'Bottle' Vases or other household itemsThis beautifully carved Indian horse panel is an antique carving from a large chariot locally called ter or Ratha Yatra. These chariots were decorated with sacred Hindu scenes and are the finest wooden sculptures found in Tamil Nadu. This example dates to the early 19th century and is made from teak wood. Beautiful carvings like this often adorned the chariots. Here, we see a warrior riding on horseback, probably Mallana, a manifestation of Shiva.
