Yaobian translates to 'transmutation' and refers to the variegated glaze effect which occurs as the glaze changes colour during the kiln firing process. Blue flambe was first developed in the 11th century and is created by mixing iron & copper. Flambe glazes were notoriously difficult and unpredictable to work with
