'Dong' means East 'Bei' means North the region of their origin. These were used in a similar way to altar tables and usually, a family ancestor portrait would be hung above. Joss sticks were lit daily & placed on the top, for the well being of the household. The beautiful decorative painting depicts butterflies and birds among geometric shapes.
