Provenance: Isaac Pear who sailed to San Francisco on the Golden Eagle in late 1852, returning to Boston by 1854. Inscribed: "Saturday May 16th" When M. L. Winn arrived in 1849, he made candy and sold it on the streets, chanting, "Here is your California candy! It has neither come 'round the Horn nor across the Isthmus, but is made in your city" After
